Some people are serious, others silly, but some people take being silly very seriously. Rising like the phoenix from the centre of culture that is Peterborough, Darftphunk (Steve to his mum) has been secretly conducting all many of strange experiments in the studio of Darftphunk.
Steve, no stranger to the world of Djing, has been playing for nearly 16 years, after being raised on a strict diet of Motown, funk and soul he pulled the face that we pulled when he first heard house music “back in the day” and from that point on he was hooked. Steve had flirted with break beat while he was still playing drum and bass, then by his own admission “the music lost its funk and breaks seemed to be going in the direction I was coming from”.
After his friends entering him in a DJ competition he took part and won, this comp was being run by non other than Nick Slater (Drumattic Twins/Shades Of Rhythm), Steve went on to become one of the residents at a weekly night called Bungalow (it’s a different kind of house) and played along side many great jocks (Norman Jay, Krafty Kuts, Freddy Fresh, Rennie Pilgrim, Plump DJ’s to name but a few). After enjoying 4 happy years, Bungalow finally closed its doors and Steve was out on his ear and Darftphunk was born.
Biting the bullet Steve worked the streets to get enough cash together to get a studio going, after emerging to what seemed like a year (more a week really) Steve was wise in the ways of programming.
2005 saw DarftPhunk unleash his various beasts on CDR and was given the nod by fellow otter botherer’s Chris and Jonny from Splank! Records and was asked to remix Myagi’s “Release The Hounds” which got the nod from many of breaks leading men (and women). Darftphunk is set to take over Splank! Records and rinse Jonny and Chris for the no good Bombay bad boys they really are, you have bothered your last otter!!!!
